Frequently Asked Questions

When will the Polly Ann Trail south of Indianwood be developed?

Grants, commercial, private and philanthropic sources will be used to fund development to the south of Indianwood Road.  Along with the PATMC, the Charter Township of Orion is committed to this work and plans and funding options are underway.  Details of our 2007 Grand Opening celebrating the pintail trail segment development will be posted as they are finalized.

I've noticed a problem on the trail. Who do I contact?
For emergencies on the trail dial 911. Report unlawful activity to your local police department. Unlawful activity includes motorized use and hunting. Violators are more likely to be caught and prosecuted if violations are promptly reported. Your cooperation is appreciated.
The trail is patrolled on a routine basis by the Oakland County Sheriff's Department and MDNR Conservation Officers.
For maintenance issues or other concerns, contact the trail manager at 248-969-8660 or email: pollyanntrail@gmail.com

Where can I park?
The Blanka Trailhead in Leonard is the best place to park. It is large enough to accommodate horse trailers and has a rest room. There are other public parking area options along the trail, especially in Oxford and Orion Township. Please obey local ordinances and do not park on private property. For details on access and parking, please visit our 'maps' page or download our trail map.

How long is the trail?
The Oakland County segment of the Polly Ann Trail is 14.2 miles long. The state-owned segment of the Lapeer Polly Ann Trail is approximately 20 miles long.

How do I get a map of the trail?
Your local municipality and some local businesses may have Polly Ann Trail map brochures. Trail maps are very much in demand, however. Supplies go very fast, especially in the peak of the season. Please visit our 'maps' page for a downloadable version.

My group wants to use the trail for our event. Do we need permission and if so, what is the procedure?
Organized events and larger groups must get permission from the Polly Ann Trailway Management Council and the DNR. Contact the trail manager for details. Currently there is no fee for use of the trail. Accommodating your group safely is our primary concern.

Are there plans to connect the Polly Ann and Paint Creek Trails?
Yes, and there are a number of options being pursued. The MDNR is proposing to connect the trails through Bald Mountain in Orion Township. A connection in the Village of Lake Orion is being explored by the Village. Difficulty crossing Lapeer Road (M-24), unusual terrain, the high cost of right-of-way acquisition, and other factors have made a direct connection a challenge. There are many pathways and roads that connect both trails. Please use caution when crossing Lapeer Road (M-24) and when riding in traffic.

How can I help support the trail?
Becoming a member is the easiest way to help the trail. The Council participates in and hosts various events during the year -- volunteers are always welcome! Scout and other special projects help enhance the trail. We welcome your ideas.
