Trailway Management Council Meeting Schedule: Lost & Found |
Initial development of the trail between Indianwood Road in Orion Township and Bordman Road in Addison Township is complete, including a beautiful bridge crossing M-24 in Oxford!
Funds for trail development in Orion Township between Joslyn and Waldon Roads are being sought through state, federal, local, and private grantors and philanthropists. Orion Township government is a valuable partner in this endeavor; the PATMC is working closely with them to secure these funds and complete the next phase in connecting the Polly Ann Trail to the expanding county trail network.
Also in the pipeline are potential trail enhancements such as additional parking, trail spurs connecting to schools and the Orion Library, parks and safety paths. Interpretive signage and mini-rest areas will be developed as opportunities surface.
The new trail surface will be monitored and compacted as necessary. The limestone fines will continue to settle over this first season in use. Please send your observations about trail conditions to the Trail Manager at amy@pollyanntrailway.org. Thank you!
Feel free to contact the Trail Manager with any suggestions or volunteer ideas.
Trail is Open
The Oakland County portion of the Polly Ann Trail is open for use between Scripps Road in Orion Township, and Bordman Road at the Lapeer County Line. North of Bordman Road the trail is managed through Lapeer County Parks and Recreation, and is minimally maintained. But it is open. Parking is available at the trailhead in Leonard, in Oxford Township at Pathways Baptist Church adjacent to the trail at Drahner Road , and within the Village of Oxford public lots. Download or request a map for details on parking and other trail amenities.
Parking
New Lake Orion Parking Lot.
A new Polly Ann Trail Parking Lot located just west of the Polly Ann Trail on the north side of Indianwood Road will be opening soon. The trail intersects Indianwood Road west of Joslyn Rd.
A path will connect the parking lot to trail.
Equestrian
The equestrian trail parallel to the asphalt in Leonard is in the works. MDNR officials and designers have walked the route and are working on a design to include natural footing comparisons: native soil, wood chips, and a soil/sand mix. We will use the durability and feedback from this section to direct future side trails construction on our portion of the trail and to guide MDNR work elsewhere. This is a great opportunity to contribute to the statewide trails systems accommodating equestrian users!

Frequently asked questions about development What process dictated the current development design? Who owns the trail and who makes decisions about development designs? Polly Ann Trail Events Lapeer County Commissioners voted seven to zero to manage the entire 20 mile stretch after receiving additional funding from the State to manage the entire Polly Ann Trail in the Lapeer County. Unanimous support by Commissioners is a very good indication. The trail is still in need of significant hard work before it can be utilized along its entirety, but this is a big first step. - Posted 4/13/05. More on the Lapeer Polly Ann Trail. |
